What is the cost to participate?
There is no fee to participate in orchestra. However, students will need to do the following:
1. Purchase, rent, or borrow an instrument
The monthly cost to rent an instrument will be approximately $20 for violin / viola - $35 for cello -
$60 for string bass.
The cost to purchase a beginning violin might cost $150 and up. A beginning cello might cost $350
and up.
If an instrument is being purchased, it is best to buy it local and have Mrs. Hershey look at it
prior to final payment. Some instruments on ebay can be okay, but you don't want to buy them
sight unseen or not be able to return the instrument.
If an instrument is being borrowed, please have Mrs. Hershey or a local music store look at the
instrument prior to starting in orchestra.
2. 5th graders will purchase a book, "Essential Elements 200" - $10.00
3. It is best to have a folding music stand - approximately $15.00
4. 6th grade and older students participating in solo and ensemble contest. - approximately $20 for accompanist fees, possible purchase of the solo itself.
