What equipment is needed for orchestra?
Items needed to participate in the Orchestra Class:
* INSTRUMENT; the School District does not have any instruments to rent.
* BOOK - ‘Essential Elements for Strings 2000’ with CD and DVD - cost is around $10.00
* Lint-free Rag to wipe rosin and finger prints off of the instrument. One can be purchased from Mrs. Hershey for 50 cents.
* PENCIL in the case or folder at all times
* Sponge or shoulder rest and Rubber Band - violin and viola - shoulder rest can be purchased from
Mrs. Hershey for $2.00, or for full size instruments from a music store. Mrs. Hershey recommends the Kun shoulder
rest. It seems to be the most comfortable and is built well.
* Rock stop - cello - to keep the cello endpin from slipping on a wood or tile floor
There are many types of rock stops. Ask what might work best.
* Folding Music Stand for practicing at home
* Extra set of Strings (optional)
INSTRUMENT RENTAL: If you do not have a Violin, Viola or Cello, you can rent one from the following Music Stores
in the Madison area. There are other places to rent or buy also.
