What are the expectations for parents?
It is difficult to start a string instrument and it is not a fast process for most students. Students need to be diligent in their practice to move ahead. It is best to remember that not all students learn at the same rate so be patient for the "aha" moment!
1. encourage your child
2. give your child a place to practice that is out of the family's way. Having a music stand is big plus also.
3. make sure the instrument is of good quality so it is easier to play
4. help your child schedule practice time into their week. It is recommended to practice everyday for 10-30 minutes each time. I respect that practice might actually occur 5 times a week. The more consistent practice is, the more muscle memory that is happening.
5. make sure your child brings their instrument and music on lesson days
6. provide private lessons for your child outside of school
7. sign up for summer lessons or orchestra.
8. contact the teacher if there are any issues affecting your child
These issues can include many things, not just about the instrument.
